harmaine Panegyuk organized a
drop-in sewing club for youth in
her community of Cambridge Bay,
Nunavut at least two times per week. She
wanted youth in her community to learn
sewing skills, work on existing projects,
and build new ones too. Charmaine used
the funds from the #RisingYouth grant to
purchase various fabrics, beads, furs, and
a sewing a machine.
Thanks to Charmaine, youth have been
learning how to make mittens and gloves
for the very first time! "They learned
how to curve the boxer style patterns,"
Charmaine shares. "They learned that
the fur must be facing down for them to
turn out the way they want it to. We have
learned so much from all of this, and we
really appreciate everything."

this project possible.
