...We established
a presence in our
community. A
presence that says,
"we are Indigenous
and we are here."
I
n an increasingly technologically-
focused world, there are many
essential skills that many of us may
lose. Jack King recognized the hyper-
dependence on technology for many
youth and wanted to ensure that youth in
his community were prepared with basic
survival skills. As Jack shares, "My project
will help to teach youth useful skills they
can use if they ever find themselves in
the wilderness."
In collaboration with the Open Door
Community Youth Network, Jack put
together a two-day and overnight event
full of survival education, including
hiking and outdoor adventure. He also
organized fun activities like tie-dye
making and indoor games. The event
was fun and educational for all involved!
