W
hat could be more quintes-
sential of the high school
experience than prom?
Madison Power-Lockman, along with
thePEERS youth group in Charlottetown,
organized a queer prom in honor of
International Day Against Homophobia
Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHBT). The
event will featured a queer and inclu-
sive spin on prom traditions, such as the
crowning of a royal court and backdrop
photography, while also raising aware-
ness on IDAHBT.
The Over the Rainbow Queer Prom was
a Prince Edward Island-wide event hosted
in the provincial capital of Charlottetown
at the Rodd Charlottetown. For the purpos-
es of accessibility, the prom was entirely
free and even provided a shuttle to and
from the event from Summerside — the
second largest community in the province.
"We celebrated diversity and exclusivity,
and all the youth in attendance had the
opportunity to be completely themselves
in a safe and positive environment,"
reflects Madison.
