55 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T V O L . 2 A seel Mohammed Ali has always been passionate about writing, finding it to be a powerful way for her to express herself. It's not a surprise then that she decided to put together a multicultural book called 'We Are All One' to bring together the multicultural communities of Halifax, Nova Scotia. "I was participating in a multicultural event to exhibit Iraqi art and culture," reflects Aseel. "During that event, I met We Are All One Aseel proudly shares. "Youth now are happy to work together and become more open to learn about other cultures, which will take them to the next step of reaching out to different communities, attending their festivals, and having new friends." It was an empowering and collaborative project where youth shared their stories and newcomers contributed their artwork. We Are All One is now available in the Halifax Public Library for all to read and enjoy! We engaged young adults to be more proud of all their cultures and to know that it needs to be shared and celebrated... Aseel Mohammed Ali many people from different communities and cultures so the question came to my mind: "Why not create a multicultural book to highlight the different communities in Halifax?" After doing some research and finding the #RisingYouth grant online, Aseel put her idea into motion. She reached out to different communities and encouraged youth to take the lead and write about their culture. 17 youth from 12 different communities were involved in the creation and writing of this book, which shares important information and experiences around food, languages, festivals, and the successes of the youth involved. "We engaged young adults to be more proud of all their cultures and to know that it needs to be shared and celebrated," An article in Saltwire talking about the launch of Aseel's book!
