Unit 2: Cultural Creations and Business CREATE TO LEARN Lesson 6: Cash in on Your Passion (Casey Desjarlais) ACTIVATE: FROM PASSION TO PURPOSE Turning a hobby or passion into a business idea (purpose) can be daunting. To help, inform stu- dents that they will fill out the "From Passion to Purpose" handout. First, have students brainstorm all the things they enjoy doing. Examples can be hanging out with friends, listening to music, playing sports etc… Next, have students brainstorm all the things they are good at. Examples can be public speaking, making things with their hands, coming up with ideas, problem solving etc… Finally, have students brainstorm what is needed in their communities or in society in general. Examples can be clothing, transportation, sports, entertainment, technology etc. Lesson Plan CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut • Grade 11 and Grade 12 Entrepreneurship course • Art 10-20-30 British Columbia & Yukon • Entrepreneurship and Marketing 10 • Media Design 10 • Graphic Production 11 (identical to Entrepreneurship and Marketing 10) • Career Life Education Nunavut • Entrepreneurship 11 • Art 10-20-30 (Alberta) Ontario • Business Studies Grade 9 and 10 • Information and Communication Technology in Business, Grade 9 or 10 (BTT1O, BTT2O) • Media Arts Grade 11 and 12 DURATION 3-5 Hours OVERVIEW Throughout this lesson, students will explore their passions, including what they are good at and what their community needs are in order to develop a business idea.
