Empowerment through role models: Connecting students with First Nations, Metis, Inuit and non-Indigenous role models to inspire hope and future pathways. Role modeling provides a direct line to self-efficacy enhancement, by offering students an opportunity to witness practices (living knowledge) that they may have had limited exposure to in their everyday life (Deer & Falkenberg, 2016; Katz, 2017). Role models can offer guidance on how to translate words and stories into actions that promote Well-Being, ensuring education is as practical as it is informative (Katz, 2017). For Indigenous youth, role models also provide a means of inspiring hope for the future by demonstrating career and life pathway opportunities that may have not been evident before (Valero, Keller, & Hirschi, 2019) 5. Adapting expectations: Working with the unique strengths, challenges and learning goals for each school and letting them guide what success looks like. Strengths-based education is an approach to education and learning that seeks to promote Well-Being through emphasizing intentional development and tailored teaching methods. The emphasis on this approach is that students can become more mindful of their strengths (vs. perceived deficits), cultivate them, and ask and receive the appropriate support to build those strengths, which can directly influence a sense of accomplishment and Well-Being (Lopez & Louis, 2009). 6. Incorporating a diversity of voices: Welcoming input from a range of sources on how we can best support participating students and educators. Inclusion, recognition and fairness are key components of individual, school and community Well-Being (Prilleltensky, 2012; Prilleltensky & Prilleltensky, 2007). Self- determination, interdependence (collaboration and democratic participation), and distributive justice create the empowering conditions in which diverse perspectives thrive and be 'heard.' The manner that these are enacted informs the design of the program and guides the evaluation, which will be discussed later.
