Connected North is already guided by principles, which would make this an appropriate model to use for evaluation. The foundation for using a Principles-focused approach to evaluation are already laid. The program's guiding principles could be evaluated in the following manner: • Relationship building: Focus on those activities (lessons, course components) that build and sustain trust between students, educators, and communities. Indicators of respect, humility, and openness in communication will support that. • Thinking beyond the classroom: Explore the number, type, and variety of experiences facilitated by Connected North that connect learners to their lived experience, community, traditional knowledge, and ongoing social, emotional, and reflective activities outside of the classroom context. • Culturally relevant content: The exposure to, experience with, and integration of traditional knowledge through the Connection North curriculum. This includes looking at the ways in which lessons provoke new ways of thinking or connections between different forms of knowledge, content, or experiences. • Empowerment through role models: The number, type and quality of connections facilitated between students and First Nations, Metis, Inuit and non-Indigenous role models. The experiences and learning outcomes as well as contributing to a sense of hope, purpose, and career (life + work + spirit) goals. • Adapting expectations: The goals (number, type) set, worked toward and achieved related to learning, personal, and career (vocational, skills) expectations. • Incorporating a diversity of voices: The incorporation of, inclusion, and encouragement of sources of knowledge -- people, cultures, traditions -- into the curriculum and lessons delivered and supported by Connected North.
