A N N A L A M B E 144 " There's so much talent and there's so much creativity within our communities that we need to share with the world. We want to share with the world. We want to share with each other as Indigenous peoples." Anna Lambe is an Inuk actress known for portraying Spring in The Grizzlies and Sarah in the CBC mini-series Trickster. She has graciously offered to share her some tips and some things that she wishes she knew before she got involved in the film industry. LESSON ONE: WHERE TO START GETTING INVOLVED IN THE FILM INDUSTRY There are many entry points to get involved in the acting industry, whether you start as an extra, background or whether you audition for those big roles right away. "I started as Spring in the Grizzlies, which was not a lead role, but a supporting role, which I later got nominated for best supporting actress. So I think that goes to show you can start all the way at the bottom and work your way up, or sometimes these things happen where you get involved right into the thick of it right away." HERE ARE ANNA'S TIPS FOR GETTING INVOLVED IN THE ACTING INDUSTRY: "I know for myself, I wish I had more experience on a set." Keep an eye out for calls for extras within your community, and calls for extras within the region. Being an extra is a great entry point, it gives you experience, lets you build your resume and gives you experience on set. "I know for myself, when I saw the opportunity for trickster, it was actually posted by the director, Michelle Latimer on Facebook. I told myself I wasn't going to do it. I wasn't going to do it. Grizzlies was a fluke. And then the day before casting closed, I asked for the sides. I did the audition, I think that morning and sent it in that afternoon." Be conscious of the opportunities that are coming up and don't be afraid to take them. Try it out, you have nothing to lose! People seeing your face in the application process helps get you out there and helps people get to know you. "I look back and I'm like, if I had never taken that one opportunity that I saw on Facebook of all places, I wouldn't be in this position that I'm in now."
