People will give a lot of advice about acting, how to get further involved, or how to level up. Criticism isn't all bad. "Constructive criticism can really help your career and can really help you as an actor. But sometimes people will just say mean things just because they want to say mean things or because they don't know how to properly get their point across and it just comes across as hateful." Being able to tell the difference between constructive criticism helps you apply valid critique and also shapes how you feel about yourself after you receive it. Constructive criticism helps you improve. Hate just makes you feel bad (and you can just throw it away!) Boundaries "Respecting your boundaries is just as important as setting them." Anna did not at first honour her own boundaries around social media when she got started and she faced harassment over her choice not to engage with every person who interacted with her on social media. Managing Expectations "Manage your expectations of how quickly you're going to grow in this industry and the different opportunities that are going to come your way." Anna has a vision board of what she wants for the future but she manages her expecta- tions because disappointment hits her hard. "It's really important that we have dreams and we have goals and we have visions, but also be really careful that you don't get your hopes up super, super high." Handling Rejection Learning how to handle rejection is so key. It's an important piece of self-care. "There's going to be a lot of nos in this industry. You get a lot of no's and sometimes you don't even get no's. You just never hear from a casting director, again, be prepared for that. Be prepared that you're not going to
