Providing models for change and inspiration
For youth, having someone to look up to can expand
the mental map of what is possible for them in their
lifetime. The opportunity to connect with a role model
can be a life-changing experience. That connection
can provide meaningful support for young people
navigating topics like choosing a post secondary
institution, leaving home, letting go of fear, building
a business, exploring culture and identity and the
role of education, art and music in their life.
Impact and a Way Forward for More Students
In 2019, the Future Pathways program supported
hundreds of interactive sessions with Indigenous role
models to shift the perspectives of students in our
Connected North network. Funding from the RBC
foundation made it possible for youth to follow in the
footsteps of Indigenous leaders and find the pathways to
successful transitions into the world beyond high school.
