To best serve their young creatives
during the COVID 19 padamic, the
Organization for Youth Empowerment
evaluated the digital media skills
level and access to technology
for each of the young creatives.
Keeping the results of this evaluation
and assessment in mind, the team
designed various programs and
groups of participants that focused
on different media skills.
The offered sessions also focused on
incorporating the technological tools
that the young creatives are already
familiar with, such as mobile devices,
to eliminate the learning curve of using
new tools, thus helping participants
to focus on skill development.
The young creatives were divided into
groups based on their level of digital
media literacy skills. Using Zoom
and WhatsApp, the young creatives
connected weekly in their assigned
groups to expand their digital media
skills, work on collaborative projects,
and learn to utilize the devices they
have access to in order to create media.
In addition, to help replicate an in-
person connection in a virtual setting,
the young creatives worked in pairs to
provide feedback, create new content,
and practice their media making skills.
They were also encouraged to use
their surroundings in quarantine to
find inspiration and creativity as they
adapt to a new pandemic lifestyle.
