Heaps Decent launched a new pilot
program that sought to engage
young people in the development
of an interactive Virtual Reality (VR)
experience. In response to the COVID
19 pandemic, the Heaps Decent
team had to pivot regarding which
communities they engaged with. The
virtual nature of the programming
altered how the team could deliver
and teach the VR skills young creatives
require to create and share their
stories through this medium.
The goal of this new pilot project
is to provide a space by creating a
VR platform that showcases young
voices' concerns of the impact that
climate change has on Australia. In
this VR platform, the young creatives
will utilize photography, filmmaking,
digital art, special effects, and music
production to share their voice
and calls to action regarding what
communities can do in response to
the climate change crisis.
To develop this VR platform and
learn new digital media skills, the
young creatives connected on a
weekly basis for 90 minutes for
activities led by teaching artists
that specialize in filmmaking, sound
design and multimedia.
