Connect to the experts at Polar Bears International to learn more about the science of climate change, how polar bears can struggle with survival and what we can do to help them. STRONG A ND STA BLE STRUC TURES with Ontario Science Centre Explore the strength and stability of structures. Experiment with compression, tension, and load. Students will design and build bridges, towers, and arches using a variety of materials. Students will then test the structural limits of their structures. PACIFIC SA LMON: ADAPTATIONS AND DISSEC TION with Pacific Salmon Foundation This session will focus on the adaptations and features of the Pacific Salmon through dissection to learn about the internal and external anatomy. Students will complete a labelled diagram and indicate the importance or function of each feature. The survival of salmon is connected to these specific features. Following the dissection they can sketch this feature and explain why it is important to the survival of the salmon. Students will consider how changes in the environment could impact the way salmon look and survive. OWLS - FROM THE INSIDE OUT! with Ann Arbor Hands on Museum Get up close to owls with an avian expert from Leslie Science and Nature Center (Ann Arbor, Michigan) uses live birds to compare and contrast the characteristics of different owl species. Learn how owls have adapted to a predatory way of life. Dissect real owl pellets to investigate the diet of a barn owl. Learn about food chains and the role of avian predators in an ecosystem. Gain an introduction to skeletal anatomy and prey identification.
