Connected North is a leading-edge program that delivers interactive education services to schools in
remote communities through two-way, video technology. This school year, Connected North is operating in
over 90 schools and serving over 20,000 students.
The goal of Connected North is to provide participating schools with access to virtual content that is
engaging and innovative, with the hope of increasing feelings of empowerment in school and in life.
This includes virtual guest speakers, field trips and collaborations between schools across Canada.
At the heart of the program is our commitment to an approach that holds Indigenous perspectives at the
centre of both content and process. This includes developing culturally relevant content where students'
cultures are respected and valued. The students and educators guide how the program will work best
for their community, and First Nations, Métis and Inuit role models and content providers are involved
wherever possible, as critical sources of knowledge and inspiration.
TakingITGlobal is the program manager and charitable partner for Connected North, in collaboration
with Cisco Canada, and leads an ecosystem of supporters and contributors who work together to make
this educational resource available.
