They will be guided by the teaching artist in interpreting a narrative text, into visual panels. (The text is preferably a script, provided in advance by their class or by the teaching artist.) Storyboarding technique is commonly used by directors as a plan for film, TV, and commercial production. It is also used in the creation of graphic novels and comic books. Students will be introduced to basic film/videography vocabulary. DIGITA L SK ILLS FOR DEMOCR AC Y with Elections Canada How can we find out if information about elections or political issues is something we can trust? Students will think about the importance of making sure they have trustworthy information before they make a decision on a political or electoral issue. In this hands-on activity, students will work in small groups to explore a series of scenarios designed to teach five strategies for verifying information. At the end of the session, students will plan how to find out if something online is true, and reflect on their own responsibilities as citizens in a democracy. THE WA R TH AT CH A NGED YOUR WORLD: SCIENCE A ND TECHNOLOGY OF W WII with National WWII Museum Today's televisions, computers, and cell phones can all trace their origins to technological advancements realized during WWII. Other facets of our modern lives owe a debt to WWII, too: modern building materials, ways of teaching and learning, even the way your supermarket stocks its shelves. Students explore a top ten list of WWII science and technology and brainstorm design solutions to various WWII challenges. A DOBE SPA RK SUITE with Mali Bickley Adobe Spark Suite is a free, online suite of tools to create simple digital posters, videos or web pages.The session will focus on using photos, titles, and graphics to create media that delivers a message to an audience. Mali will demonstrate the selected tool to create a sample with the students. Students will be encouraged to create their own media during the session while Mali is available to respond to any questions. Students will require experience in using computers. Classes must be able to access the Adobe Spark Suite: www.spark.adobe.com. When booking the session, please indicate if class would like to focus on posters, videos, or web pages.
