96 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T With the goal of connecting communities across generations, #RisingYouth grantee Tarek Chicot put together a special youth and elder exchange. Traditional knowledge held by the elders was celebrated and incorporated in all activities to share, build, bond, and learn from one another. A fun-filled day with about 40 people in attendance, Tarek brought the local community together through storytelling, a dry-fish activity, bingo, lunch, and tea. " Traditional knowledge was and is still a strong presence in Indigenous communities. It is our life and how we have thrived for many years. It is important to maintain these on the land and through oral traditions. My project supported the opportunity to have elders and youth come together to pass on that intergenerational knowledge." TAREK CHICOT Youth and Elder Exchange Tarek Chicot | $1,500 Kakisa, Northwest Territories Kakisa is located on Dehcho Dene territory and is a part of Treaty 11.
