54 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T In honour of National Giving Day on November 29 th , Melissa Kerik supported Helping Hands, a local soup kitchen. She used her #RisingYouth grant to purchase meat, vegetables, and desserts. Once all the necessary food was purchased, she and her team at the Vincent Massey Youth Revolution delivered it to the soup kitchen to prepare dishes. They even designed elegant centrepieces and invited musical guests to create a warm, inviting, and entertaining ambiance at the soup kitchen! On a daily average, there are 150- 175 adults accessing meals from the Helping Hands Soup Kitchen with approximately fifty children under 12. On the day of Melissa's donated meal, the temperature had dipped to -40°C and the warm meal and hospitable help was much appreciated by the guests. A healthy warm meal served with compassion and care provided hope, joy, sustenance, and support to others! " It was particularly heartwarming to be able to volunteer our time, not only funds. One of the things we learned and got to experience was just how much work all the soup kitchen volunteers put into providing meals every day. We realized the benefit of volunteering at this location and setting up a regular volunteer schedule over a longer period would be a simple way to provide support. We realized that small actions can make a difference too."
