Hosted in the Indigenous gathering space on campus called Na'tsa'maht, their project tied together important universal aspects of culture – food, dance, music, fashion, and art. Namata and Robin engaged newcomer youth to take on leadership roles in planning the event. They encouraged these youth to highlight elements of their culture that they are proud of and eager to share with the community. The Meet Up program involved youth from Sudan, Burundi, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Mexico, Libya, Vietnam, Korea, and China. The project successfully provided a safe space for people to explore the idea of where they find belonging in their own cultures, as well as any other cultures with which they have had experiences. " Our biggest success was seeing our youth connecting with members of their communities and welcoming them with open arms to experience elements of their culture that they might not otherwise get to experience. Seeing our youth take on leadership roles and act as cultural guides for an afternoon was a huge success!"
