She organized workshops making bath bombs and toothpaste to raise awareness on the plastic pollution problem and to demonstrate how we can eliminate single-use plastics in our daily lives. She also facilitated sand-sifting workshops to demonstrate how micro-plastics break up, but never break down. In addition to the workshops, Jasveen also organized hands- on activities to engage her community, including a shore clean-up of the River Valley, a documentary screening of Albatross, and an art project for local youth to share what the oceans mean to them. The art pieces were then sent to and displayed at the Vancouver Aquarium as part of a national art project! " For many years I had been wanting to bring an opportunity such as this to my community. I had wanted it to be more than an event where leaders talk to youth about what they can do, but make it hands- on and show them where they can get involved, how to start projects with an emphasis on leadership. This whole month was an accomplishment!" JASVEEN BRAR Ocean Month Jasveen Brar | $250 Redcliff, Alberta ALBERTA Redcliff is located on Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) territory and is part of Treaty 7.
