Engaging students in a collaborative learning model that uses the Cree tradition of using land as pedagogy for scientific learning, Janay and Alexandra created a space for Indigenous youth to explore their Cree culture and Indigenous ways of learning. Fifteen students attended each day and had the opportunity to learn from professional Indigenous artists, hear from real scientists leading conservation in the province, and even attend the Storyteller's Performance Festival. Students were provided with art supplies, prizes that encouraged scientific learning, and healthy food every day. " The biggest success was the relationship we built with our students. From the beginning we wanted to maintain an environment where there was no hierarchy between instructors and students therefore working to create a space of openness and support where all people involved can learn from each other."
