132 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T Newcomers do not often know the extent and the range of services available to them in their community, which makes it difficult to successfully integrate into their new Canadian surroundings. #RisingYouth grantee Lanciné Koulibaly wanted to close this knowledge gap by organizing a community panel connecting French-speaking newcomers to Francophone resources and people in Hamilton. Taking place at Collège Boréal, Lanciné brought together 33 participants including newcomers, representatives from various Francophone organizations, and members of the organizing team. Representatives from community organizations such as the Hamilton-Niagara Community Health Center, Francophone Immigration Network of Central Southwestern Ontario, Hamilton Center Francophone, French Language Services Hamilton, and Lorraine Hamilton Community Legal Clinic all shared their work and offered support during their panel discussion. Lanciné also made sure to provide child- minding services to increase the accessibility of the event. " My project was successful in many ways, including the fact that it was the first time these six organizations collaborated to answer questions from newcomers who, through this initiative, were made aware of the resources available to them."
