130 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T Subhana'allah We're Here and Queer was an art show and performance by #RisingYouth grantee and artist Yara El Safi. She showcased the paintings that she created during her residency with Vibe Arts Toronto and invited a panel of queer Muslim artists to share their experiences of living both as an LGBTQ and Muslim person. The event addressed questions of identity, Islam, queerness, and how creating art can impact communities. It was a powerful opportunity for queer Muslims to speak on their unique experiences while simultaneously creating the space for younger queer Muslims to embrace their own identity and find community. " I would say my biggest success was hearing from all the attendees that they really appreciated the space that I curated because they could hear the artist's voices echo theirs for the first time. It was an amazing experience witnessing my audience see themselves in my work and the work of other queer Muslim artists."
