112 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T #RisingYouth grantee Manu Kunuk organized an ice fishing trip for his Aulajaaqtut 12 class to the Bay of Two Rivers. The purpose of this excursion was to give students a chance to go out on the land and embrace their culture and tradition. It was a fun-filled day as students drove their skidoos on the ice, packed their qamutiks with food, fuel, and other essential items for their trip, and ice fished all the way until the evening. They caught about ten fish and someone even hunted a Canadian goose with the guidance of elders! The costs of ice fishing trips can be prohibitive to many due to the expensive equipment and/or the gap in knowledge of how to go out on the land. Manu's project was so significant as it created this bridge to connect with an important piece of the students' culture. " The biggest success achieved through the project was bringing students out on the land who don't always get the chance, as well as building relationships between everyone in our Aulajaaqtut 12 class. We all had the opportunity to go out and have a fun day!"
