It was also an important opportunity for newcomer youth to learn from the elders' knowledge and experience. The project promoted intergenerational connections and created intercultural bonds that ultimately strengthened community. As Valérie's project took place during the holiday season, the newcomer youth decided to purchase gifts for all the elderly residents and throw a party. It was a fun-filled celebration where youth entertained the seniors, played board games, and even read to them. In the end, twenty-one newcomer students between the ages of 8 to 21 years old and from six different schools were engaged. " Through this event, Yellowknife immigrant youth learned the benefit of volunteering, giving back to others, and community involvement."
