Through artistic performances,
an immersive art showcase,
and panel discussions, Melanin
Roots aimed to celebrate the
rich histories and vibrant
cultures prevalent in Edmonton's
community. #RisingYouth grantee
Yar Anyieth worked to create
an event that developed lasting
relationships between and
amongst the African diaspora,
Caribbean communities, and
other minority communities.
Melanin Roots was also a
component of the City of
Edmonton Youth Council's
Speaker Series, a larger initiative
aimed at empowering youth in
marginalized communities. With
over 100 people in attendance,
the event brought current issues
in Edmonton's Black communities
to the forefront while discussing
community-minded measures
for addressing them.

providing input, sharing,
