140 # R I S I N G Y O U T H C O M M U N I T Y I M P A C T #RisingYouth grantee Hannah Gehrels used her grant to organize Linking Together, a community building event for the LGBTQ2+ community in Charlottetown. It was a free, all-ages, all inclusive event for LGBTQ2+ and allies alike. Hannah even provided carpooling options and travel bursaries for those coming from outside of Charlottetown to make the gathering as inclusive as possible. For many years, members of the LGBTQ2+ community have expressed the need and desire for a physical space, like a community centre, for social and educational gatherings. In the absence of this kind of space, many LGBTQ2+ people in PEI feel isolated and disconnected from their communities. This event was a jumping point to discuss community needs and put together the beginnings of an action plan to create this space. Hannah also organized concurrent sessions and workshops on transgender experiences, knitting, drag queen storytelling, and so much more! " It was an amazing event! We had to shut down registration in order to not exceed our venue capacity! We have been receiving so much positive feedback from everyone who came!"
