What is This Report About?
During the summer of 2019, TakingITGlobal brought together 27 Indigenous youth leaders from across Canada to
participate in our Connected North Future Pathways Summits. These gatherings were held across various locations in
Yellowknife and Fort Providence (Northwest Territories - April 30) Toronto (Ontario - May 27-28), and Saskatoon (Ontario -
June 18-19).
These gatherings of emerging leaders were designed as a series of conversations dedicated to supporting Indigenous youth
in transition towards pursuing future goals including community leadership, post-secondary education, employment and
entrepreneurship. Our hope in hosting these events was to bring together a diverse mix of Indigenous youth, including
entrepreneurs, students, professionals and community leaders from across Canada.
This report shares perspectives of First Nation, Metis, and Inuit young people from across Canada about their experiences in
postsecondary education and employment institutions, and ways they seek to be supported in these environments. The
following is a call to action for social institutions to better prepare for and support Indigenous students, employees, and
community members they may work with.
