23 TIGed Partnerships continued Microsoft Innovative Students Forum http://www.tigurl.org/ar09misf In 2009, Microsoft Asia Pacific partnered with us in bringing the voices and ideas of students to the table at the Partners in Learning Regional Innovative Teachers' Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 15 youth selected to attend the conference presented their ideas for educational projects in their country. After presenting their ideas, 3 of the 4 teams were awarded seed grants and scholarships to attend Sprout, our e-course designed to support youth social entrepreneurship, and were provided access to workshops, and e-mentorship to help bring their projects to fruition. Green Street http://www.green-street.ca We designed and developed a new website and customized TIGed virtual classrooms for the Green Street program. Offered by the Canadian Teachers' Federation, through the support of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, Green Street offers environmental learning opportunities that engage Canadian elementary and secondary school students in order to shape more sustainable communities and futures. Meanwhile, the site's Youth Action Centre provides students with a space to find resources, events, opportunities, ideas and action projects, effectively linking youth across the country. Youth-led projects are encouraged and often supported through funding opportunities such as the $750 grants offered by the Vancouver Foundation to kick-start 43 innovative environmental initiatives. Designed and organized around the concept of a street, content on the Green Street website is organized into a number of structures. Teachers are given an introduction to the site in the Teachers' Café, and can connect and find out about events through the community centre, and access resources in the library. We were pleased to be involved in the redevelopment of the Green Street site, and helped to promote it at the 5th World Environmental Education Congress in Montreal, Québec. The student- designed booth replicated the Green Street website, with its various buildings and a massive collage on the ground. This booth had the distinction of being the largest student-made display component at the conference. Microsoft Innovative Students Forum
