20 TIGed Climate Change Tread Lightly http://www.treadlightly.me With the support of the Staples Foundation for Learning®, TakingITGlobal launched Tread Lightly, a youth engagement program that explores climate change. The program includes a number of initiatives, including an ecological footprint challenge which sees participants adopt, track and maintain a variety of green pledges, and an interdisciplinary secondary school curriculum. In addition to schools in the 3 pilot countries of France, Netherlands and the United Kingdom, others around the world have also employed the Tread Lightly program, which includes access to our virtual classroom communities, allowing students to collaborate globally with other schools and classes. 40-Day Challenge http://www.tigurl.org/40day The global 40-Day ecological footprint challenge involved joining others around the world in taking on - and sticking to - commitments to reduce ecological footprints and contribute to a more sustainable, common future. Members made pledges, participated in discussions around issues that influence global efforts to sustainability, and provided online encouragement to one another in a show of solidarity to realize the goals of the challenge. Imprints Art Contest http://www.tigurl.org/imprints The Imprints art contest invited participants from around the world to contribute original pieces of artwork which explore ecological footprints † and/or the number 350 ‡ . Over 120 submissions were received from youth in over 30 countries. Prizes were awarded to the top 10 winners, and all submissions are available to view in the Global Gallery. Interdisciplinary Secondary School Curriculum The interdisciplinary secondary school curriculum, available in both English and French, can effectively be used to teach about climate change and ecological footprints at any time. This year's curriculum was specifically designed to run in parallel to key events in global climate change policy leading up to and including the UN climate change conference in December. Tread Lightly Thematic Classroom http://www.tigweb.org/tiged/resources.html The Tread Lightly virtual classroom is preloaded with Tread Lightly lessons and other climate related content. Each Tread Lightly classroom has the capability to connect with other virtual classrooms around the world, providing open-ended possibilities for international, collaborative climate change learning. † a measure of the pressure placed by human beings on the planet ‡ the level in parts per million that UN climate scientists have concluded is the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
