EST " In the past, surroundings of land, animals, water and plants were plentiful and clean. Today, these gifts of life are slowly being affected by human behaviours. My hopes and dream for Canada and my community, Deh Gah Gotie Kue, 150 years from now, is that our gifts of life continues to exist, and that our environment is clean and free." Sadeedi Gargan, Fort Providence (Environmental Sustainability) " What I wanted to see in the next 150 years is to see more acceptance with LGBTQ. Right now, most of these people are hiding because most will be hurt or made fun of and I don't want that to happen to anyone. The next thing I want to see is freedom. We are Canadians but some of us do not have freedom. Some of us don't have a choice to be what we want to be or be with who we want to be with. In the future, I want people to have their own choices and their own freedom. Last but not least is the environment. I want to see more trees and plants growing everywhere. This is our own planet and there is no other place to go if this one dies. I want to see and hear the animals like I did when I was ten. I want to see our planet strong and healthy in the next 150 years." Dakota Mackeinzo, Yellowknife (Personal & Community Development) " I did this piece to talk about the Mackenzie River. The Mackenzie River is very important to our people because we see it every day. We use the river for hunting, boating, fishing and it is our main source of drinking water. The river is very important to the communities down river and is the third longest river in the world. The Mackenzie River is very important." Neilson Vandell, Fort Providence (Environmental Sustainability) " In 150 years, I would like to see Canada have clean, unpolluted water and air. I would also like to see lots of trees. In my piece, I put pine needles from a tree and I also put dirt on it because I think that it is important that our country has both of these things; clean water and clean land. I painted two bears because it is important that we have animals in the north because some people still use animals as a source of food."
