27 N O U V E A U - B R U N S W I C K " My [mosaic] piece is representative of Acadian tradition, the church—what was once an important part of everyday life for our communities has now become hollow. It is now a decorative piece of architecture we drive past instead of to. The faith and spirituality of our culture is very much taking an almost invisible role, as we become more blended into a worldwide community... the mosaic of Canadian cultures merging and, still with some notable differences, are gently—much like a wave in the ocean—becoming one. The loss of the past is not to be mourned, but to be seen as one piece of our cultural history evolving into a new form to create a stronger, better, united Acadia." Rebecca Belliveau, Moncton (Cultural & Historic Preservation) " My wish for the next 150 years, and beyond, is that there is still clean water that the water is full of life. I wish that the St. John River, the Wolastoq, flows freely and thrives once again. The trees, the forests are important. I wish for clear cutting to stop and for all the natural species of our forests to be able to grow and thrive naturally. There are medicines in the forests that are being destroyed by the clear cutting. The people are the Wolastoqiyik, my people, the people from the beautiful river. I wish that my people are still here, thriving, our voices heard, and watching over the land that we have been a part of for tens of thousands of years."
