Dance HUMAN BODY A S A PERCUSSIVE INSTRUMENT with Cowles Centre for Dance This class combines drumming and dance for beginning and advanced movers alike. We will go through the basic steps of physicalizing the beat as an individual and then build a soundscape as a class. This class is high energy, fun, and a great excuse to be as loud as possible! EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH SONG, DANCE & BUSINESS with Dakota Bear & Casey Desjarlais Dakota Bear, Aboriginal hip-hop artist, and Casey Desjarlais, Pow-Wow dancer, are both aspiring Indigenous community leaders and entrepreneurs. As they come together to collaborate for this session, they will discuss what they are doing to empower youth, how they have built their business, what they envision for the future, and how they got to where they are now. From Saskatoon to Vancouver, these young Indigenous role models have dedicated their lives to building up our Indigenous communities and individuals. Their passion is set on creating a generation of young Indigenous leaders. GR A SSDANCE- HIP HOP FUSION with Tristan Marshall Tristan will lead the students through the evolution of Hip Hop dance and fusion into Indigenous culture. This fun and active session will get the students moving and dancing to grassdancing and hip hop while learning about different hip hop and Indigenous artists. INTRODUC TION TO BBOY AND BGIRL with Jheric Hizon Jheric has been dancing for over 20 years. He has been in numerous bboy battles and now owns his own Dance Academy called Boogaloo Academy. He now spends most of his time with the Academy but he also travels to schools in the lower Mainland of BC. Jheric will teach the very basics of Bboying and is open to teaching a 4 part series where the students can perform what they have learned for their school.
