Music MEDIE VAL MUSIC AND DANCE with Sheffield Rural Museum Students will learn from a "first-person" peasant character about the music and dance that was popular amongst the medieval peasantry. The fiddle, bagpipes, whistle, drum, mouth harp, and hurdy-gurdy are demonstrated and discussed. The students may learn a medieval song in advance and sing along with the peasant, and the students will learn some simple dances from medieval times, danced to live music. MUSIC AL MATH with Manhattan School of Music Fractions are all around us, especially in music! Teaching artist Amir Khosrowpour reveals the mathematical secrets behind music, with interactive, audio-visual activities and fun mathematical models. Using these math exercises, students create music together on the spot. The program teaches fraction equivalence and reinforces quantitative reasoning, in a brand new way! DRUMMING with Waukomaun Pawis Drums can be found all around the world and in many cultures. In Canada there are over 650 different First Nations communites each with their own distinct stories and understanding of the drum. We'll take a look at a Ojibwe drumming, songs and stories as Waukomaun shares his knowledge of drumming that has been passed down to him from his community. TAILORED MUSIC LESSONS with National Arts Centre For students aspiring to a professional music career. Connect with a working musician for advice and discussion of how to begin and sustain a career in music. Topics may include recording and producing your music, touring, self-marketing, working with arts organizations and agents, career options in the music industry, preparing for an audition, finding a great teacher, or other topics tailored to the particular student(s).
